Description

Gorgeous fabric! 1950’s Sophie Original brown silk damask dress, by Sophie Gimbel, the Saks Fifth Avenue in-house designer known for her luxurious formal clothing. Double rolled silk straps. Bodice is trimmed with a border that twists around where the straps meet the bodice, bows at the center of the swirl (see close-ups). Fitted bust and waist. Full circle gored skirt, fifteen gores total! Lined with layers of white muslin. Metal zipper up the back. Labels read, “Sophie Original” and “Saks Fifth Avenue”. [photographed with a crinoline to show the skirt]

Condition: Clean and ready to wear with no loose seams, holes, stains or wear. Only issue is that the waist was taken up and there are traces of the old seam left behind, but a belt or a ribbon around the waist would hide the old seam traces. The pics are before we removed this adjustment and we removed it because it was crooked, now the waist seam is straight. Ask us for pictures of the seam traces if it is a concern. Otherwise, the dress is near mint. Belt loops, no belt. Around 2″ extra length for straps and large side seams on the bodice (3″ each side) that can be let out if you need more room.
