Description

Beautiful and sophisticated design. 1950s Adele Simpson sculptural purple silk taffeta evening dress and button-up bolero jacket. The dress is a wonderfully tailored eight-gored princess style with a vast skirt that can be expanded with crinolines, but holds a good shape on its own due to the starched fabric and net lining throughout. Bodice has a dipped bust with an off-the-shoulder capped sleeve-cut. The bolero can go from a dramatic stand-up collar to a demure sailor-like collar. Cuffed 3/4 length sleeves. Lined with a white raw silk. [Photos 6-12 taken with a crinoline that is not included]

Label: Adele Simpson ** Adele Simpson was a prominent American designer in the 1950s who adapted French high fashions and, along with designers like Claire McCardell, created sophisticated and wearable sportswear for American women

Condition: No holes or stains found, the dress and jacket have subtle overall discoloration that is not blatantly noticeable, but the dress underarms are blotchy and pinkish. The inside jacket underarms, lined in a white silk, are slightly yellowed. There is a tiny bit of pulling at the points of the jacket underarms, but nothing noticeable.
