1940s 50s tulle and Chantilly silk lace evening gown (repair)

Description

From the repair pile: Gorgeous and opulent 1940s tulle evening gown with off-white silk Chantilly lace and rhinestones. This dress has a lot of details – the lace is sewn along the bodice on a diagonal. The bust is highly constructed with layers of tucked tulle and a white bustier with a dipped bustline. Peplum hips with side bustles sewn-inside. Two layers of tulle make up the skirt and an off-white satin underskirt. Attached tulle wrap around the shoulders.

condition: good/very good. The tulle and most of the lace is in surprisingly good condition. Glancing over, I could not find any breaks in the tulle. However, the lace along the peplum/near the zipper has unraveled/disintegrated. Looks like this one area was exposed to light or some element during storage and the lace here is not as sturdy as the rest of the dress. Plan was to finish off the lace after removing the weak area. You could also appliqué something here to cover where the lace has been removed – use the shoulder tulle. This dress was cleaned, so no smells, but very lightly and the fabric is yellowed/darker than it was originally, the underskirt hem is dingy with frays, see photos. The gather on one side of the shoulder tulle has come undone.
