Teens 1920s black wool gabardine and silk satin dress with elaborate embroidery and micro-beading. The wool gab fabric is very fine and lightweight. The silk is a crepe back satin. Intricate embroidery and crewel work with black micro-beading intertwined. The beads are subtle, just add a little sparkle to the embroidery. Cut glass jet beads along the shoulders. Dress opens with snaps along one shoulder. Bodice is lined with a black polished cotton fabric. A modesty piece has been sewn in at the center neckline.
condition: selling this dress almost as-is. Did a couple repairs, like a loose bead and snaps. Main issue is the silk satin underarms and right sleeve. The dress appears to have been restored in the past, the underarms were replaced. However, these replacements are now shredding on both sides and need replacement again. Luckily it is only the replaced silk that is shredding in the underarms – would need to cut a piece of silk in the same shape and replace. There is also fraying on the right sleeve – a frayed tear on the cuff. The good news is that there is extra silk satin fabric inside the dress for repairs, see photos. Repairing the underarms, the dress will be wearable (with care, of course, given the age).
Full list of other issues: There is a spot on the front skirt and four on the back skirt. Two frayed holes along the left pleat down the side of the dress. These are right on the pleat and not blatantly obvious, possibly from a snag, see photos. A couple small holes on the back skirt, missing 4 satin buttons, micro-beads are missing, but they are so tiny that this is not noticeable. Trim along neckline is loose, just needs to be tacked down. Did find extra micro-beading inside the skirt, see photo, that can be used for repairs and will include a baggy of any that have come loose. May have been taken up along the waistline, extra fabric along the interior waistline. Dress has not been cleaned due to age – no noticeable smells, but underarm fabric needs replacement regardless.
