Description

Late 1950s early 60s Julius Garfinkel’s cotton curve-hugging dress with a cropped top and cap sleeves. Dress looks influenced by Estevez with that low-cut back. Fabric is a blue and white floral cotton, fully lined with a white muslin. Skirt is form-fitting and knee/calf length with side slits. Back is exposed with a square dip and a snap closure across the lower back. Metal zipper up the back of skirt. This dress came from the same owner as item 5S953, the Jerry Gilden dress, and item 5S945, the yellow slubbed cotton dress.

label: Julius Garfinkel’s [in the 1950s, Garfinkel’s was a high-end Washington, D.C. department store]

condition: cleaned, pressed and ready to wear. The fabric right along the shoulders is slightly lighter right along the edges, but not noticeable. The interior lining of the shoulders has some yellowing, but not visible on the outside. The skirt side slits do not appear to be original and the zipper has been adjusted, both use a black thread while the rest of the dress is done in a blue or white thread. On close inspection and not easily noticeable, the zipper seam is amateurish, the side lines are not completely straight.
