unique antique Chinese silk jacket with embroidered dragons

Description

Unique antique Chinese embroidered silk jacket/short robe with elaborate hand-sewn metallic gold thread dragons and Buddhist symbols. A beautiful Art Deco gradated pastel scalloped design. A lightweight informal jacket, all silk fabric and embroidery, estimating from the 1920s or 1930s. The gold thread is a cotton or silk thread wrapped in gold foil. Heavy brass buttons. Side slits. Kimono-style sleeves. Inspired by Qing Dynasty royal robes with a dragon on each shoulder and in a triad front and back, chasing flaming pearls/pearls wrapped in coral. Typical Buddhist symbols such as bats, a wheel, canopy, etc…all with unique Buddhist symbolism. Lined with a light blue silky fabric.

condition: good condition for age. Minor stains, pulls to the embroidery and loose threads – see photos. The gold foil on the gold wrapped thread has worn off in areas, but the thread is still present for the most part and this finish loss is only noticeable on close examination. There is a small hole in the silk on the top of each shoulder seam, possibly where the jacket was pinned for display at some point. Another pinhole along the right sleeve bottom seam. A couple spots where someone tried to repair or reinforced the gold embroidery, the metallic thread is sewn threw to the lining. Selling this piece as-is, but no loose seams, well-preserved and sturdy/wearable.
